Save Money & Enjoy Beautiful, Bright, Natural Light With Skylights & Tubular Skylights

Did last winter have you starved for some vitamin D and longing for some sunshine? Wish there was a way to brighten up your days, even when you’re trapped inside with work or when it’s just too cold to venture outdoors? Consider skylights!

Natural light can add value to your home and brighten your days. Plus, it’s a lot easier on your eyes than fluorescent light and incandescent light. Skylights make it possible to add natural light to just about any space, even interior rooms and rooms that lack windows.

Here at Top Hat Chimney & Roofing, we’re proud to install tubular skylights, vented skylights, and fixed skylights from Natural Light Tubular Skylights and Kennedy Skylights. Both are known for their superior quality and performance.

What are the biggest differences between tubular skylights, vented skylights, and fixed skylights, and how do they work?

Fixed Skylight is square and doesn't open.

Fixed Skylight

Top Hat original tubular skylight. It diffuses the light and disperses it throughout the home.

Tubular Skylight

Rectangular vented skylight that opens.

Tubular Skylights

Tubular skylights are essentially skylights that bring sunlight into the home through a light fixture in the ceiling. How tubular skylights work:

  • They collect sunlight at the roof level.
  • They reflect that captured sunlight down into a tube.
  • The fixture in the ceiling that’s attached to that tube diffuses the light and disperses it throughout the home, not just in one spot.

As a result, you enjoy the natural beauty of sunlight, without the heat and UV rays that can be so damaging to the skin and home. You also enjoy lighting that doesn’t rely on electricity and won’t fill your room with harsh fluorescent tones or sleepy, warm tones.

Do tubular skylights work on cloudy days?

Yes. You’ll still enjoy your tubular skylights when it’s cloudy out, although the lights won’t be as bright as they would be on a full-sun day.

Vented & Fixed Skylights

Fixed skylights are essentially windows that are added to the roof. These skylights are low profile and make it easy to brighten and add warmth to spaces. What makes vented skylights different from fixed skylights is that they can be opened and closed, just like traditional windows.

Both options are crafted with tempered glass for superior strength. Even if these skylights were to break — as a result of hail or some other impact — the glass would break into very small pieces. With tempered glass, you’ll never have to worry about big shards of glass raining down into your home.

Three top vented skylights installed.

We Guarantee Leak-proof Results & Expert Installation

Installing skylights may seem relatively simple, but if installation isn’t done properly and proper flashing and sealing isn’t done, you could end up with serious leaks and water damage. Leave installation to Top Hat Chimney & Roofing. We’ll make sure the skylights are properly installed and properly flashed, so you won’t have to worry about roof leaks or other problems.
